History
Before Sparx, I used to collect many board and party games, and look forward to game nights.
However, I began to tire of the same old problems:
So I began to throw away all the boxes and boards and accessories to all my party and board games, but kept the content cards. I experimented with mixing up these cards, and playing them casually and randomly with friends.
Most of us preferred this a la cart style of game play, so I began to think of ways it could become a product unto itself.
Soon, the idea of Sparx was born.
However, I began to tire of the same old problems:
- Games were too expensive (averaging about $30) and too bulky to carry around.
- It was challenging to coordinate a place (usually someone's home), and then have everyone agree on a game.
- Once a game had been going on for a while (like 30-45 minutes), many soon got bored of the repetitive game play, and began to hope for the game to end (even for an eclectic game like Cranium).

Sparx 1.0
I struggled to come up with a name. Top contenders were Bonga and Banter cards. I finally settled on Sparx, because part of the goal of this product is to spark fun and conversation.
A friend and awesome graphic designer (Jenn at www.peppermillprojects.com) helped with the logo and design of everything. She also coordinated production with the US based printer, Choicesportscards.com.
The first print run of Sparx (1.0) was produced in limited quantities. You can purchase them in the store.

Sparx 2.0
The second printing of Sparx (2.0) will be coordinated as a Kickstarter project, which is scheduled to launch in 2013.
My hope is to improve the content and game play even more by collaborating with the crowd. Through Kickstarter, there will be more conversation, more playtesting, and more ideas submitted to be considered as content. For those fplks that come up categories and challenges that make into Sparx 2.0, their names will be printed on each card featuring their idea.
